Nonna's birthday!

Nonna has a very lucky birthdate...August 8. We were lucky that she came to Chicago to celebrate her birthday with us. Here we are having lunch at John's Place.

Storm damage

These photos were all taken this morning on our block. The Willow end of our street received the most damage.

Possible Tornado

We had a terrible storm last night and are convinced that a tornado tore down our street. Andrew emailed NBC news regarding the tornado and he received a response from our favorite channel 5 meteorologist, Ginger Zee. I will send photos of the damage later.

MESSAGE:
I live near the intersection of North and Clybourn and it appears that
a tornado went through. There is a concentrated path of damage starting at North and Clybourn and heading northeast up to the intersection of
Orchard and Willow and beyond. Not only are the trees down in this
concentrated path, but there are many full and broken-up pieces of hard
styrofoam insulation siding panels along this path as well. The pieces
are in courtyards, fenced in parks, streets, sidewalks and yards. I
counted 10-15 of these 3 foot by 6 foot panels strewn about. It
definitely looks like the pieces were picked up and then dropped down
along the tornado path. And it makes sense that these would be picked
up because there are so light. I am not sure what construction site
they are from, but finding the source would give a good idea of the path
and strength. The source was somewhere to the south west of North and Clybourn. Anyway, just thought I would share my account.

Detroit weekend

The Hamm's babysat Elle in Grand Rapids while we went to Detroit with the Freeman Walker's for a family wedding.
